News of the recent school shooting in America is heartrending, no less so because it comes with a bewildered cry of, ‘again!’ from the world.

It adds nothing to the perpetual debate around gun laws in the US for an Australian educator, living in Australia, to add her two-cents. In fact, it seems disrespectful to the families and educators who now have to find some way (what way?) to move on. Instead I simply want to say to my American colleagues, I am so sorry and I stand with you. I can only imagine how hard it is to continue to show up for your students and your colleagues, and the reserves of strength you need to plumb to either keep doing so, or to decide you no longer can.

I am sure that the thoughts of teachers and parents from around the world are with those families and teachers in Uvalde.
